HDTV Made Easy
September 2, 2008
HDTV is not like any previous advances made so far. It is a massive leap forward bringing crisp, clear pictures never seen before into the home. People are not simply bragging (this time at least) when they go on about how fantastic the picture and sound quality is on their new HDTV. It is the biggest break thru in home entertainment since color TV arrived in the home.
HDTV does have its problems though, not least the fact that it requires completely new products and systems to get the most from the new technology. Your DVD movie collection for instance will look good on a HDTV but nothing compared to how it could look had the DVD been recorded in high definition. It wasn’t though because a dvd disc simply didn’t have the room. You would have been changing disc every 10 minutes or so! New recording systems had to be developed of which the winner is Blu Ray.
So if you want to get the most from your HDTV you will need to replace your dvd collection with Blu Ray which at the moment are quite a bit more expensive than a DVD. Obviously, you will need a Blu Ray disc player to play the discs but the good news here is that a Blu Ray player can play your old DVD collection so the DVD player can go.
Your cable and satellite provider won’t be broadcasting in high definition either, at least for now. This means that after watching a Blu Ray movie in glorious high definition, your favorite TV show is going to look pretty awful. Don’t get me started on the sport either because golf is the reason HDTV’s were invented!
DirecTV were the first to try and fill this gap and broadcast in high definition. It’s caught on fast and other satellite providers are are starting to follow suit.
If you are into gaming you are going to want to make the most of your HDTV by hooking up a Playstation 3. The graphics and sound in the new generation of games really takes advantage of the HDTV capabilities by using Blu Ray.
As you can see, it’s not just a case of buying a new HDTV and plugging in, it’s a complete new start in your home entertainment system. The good news though is that HDTV and Blu Ray is here to stay so you don’t have to worry about buying all this new gear only for something else to come along next year.
