Scary Survival Horror Gameplay Courtesy Of Genre Master Silent Hill: Shattered Memories
March 7, 2010
The Silent Hill series hardly needs an introduction, for the videogame series has become a byword for perfection within the survival horror style. The long list of games has spanned various consoles over the years, and never fails to bring innovative and genuinely spine -chilling gameplay to our screens. This pattern continues with the latest release for the PSP and PSP Go!- Silent Hill: Shattered Memories.
This game is really a copy of the Wii version released last year, and the transfer to the small screen has been impressively successful. The formula for Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is familiar but appreciated; you’re Harry Mason, who awakens after acar crash to his daughter missing within Silent Hill. This abandoned place ranges from forboding creepiness to complete terror as its demonic denizens begin to reveal themselves, and the PSP’s visual edge doesn’t disappoint.
Some interesting and innovative gaming ploys are utilized in Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. First of all, the well discussed ‘running’ sequences from the Wii version are carried through. These find Harry defenceless and therefore only able to flee from his attackers, and therefore you engage in a very scary interactive scene as you try to escape from those nipping at your heels.
Secondly, as users advance through the plot, the gameplay is interspersed with sections involving Harry talking about life with a psychologist. This character will ask general questions about life, his views on women etc. The answers you select will really have an effect on the various places you visit and the characters/enemies you meet. This clearly opens Silent Hill: Shattered Memories up for numerous playthroughs to see everything.
This game definitely continues the long line of great offerings from the Silent Hill series; fusing the tried and tested formula with new and innovative gameplay elements. If you’re a fan of the notoriously creepy survival horror, then Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is a clear option!
