Nintendo are poised to unleash yet another addition to the ever expanding DS family ; the Nintendo DSi XL. The general concensus has been this addition is surplus to needs, but Nintendo have been fast to reassure fans this device is not meant to nullify the current DSi, merely to serve as a different choice.
As the name suggests, the Nintendo DSi XL is abigger helping of the DSi. The frame has been swapped for a chunky mould and the screens have been increased by almost a full in. to 4.2 inches. These larger screens are a welcome inclusion and push the Nintendo DSi XL closer to the screen dominance of the PSP. Titles look larger and clearer than before and, a little pixelation aside, appear much better for it.
Togetherwith the screen, the Nintendo DSi XL has built upon the speakers packed into the larger frame. One of the minor grouses with the DSi is the sound was found wanting in some titles, so these speakers should sort out this problem. The Nintendo DSi XL also revisits the swish gloss design of the original.
TheNintendo DSi XL is an alternative choice for those that like their videogaming a bit bigger. Various game players requested the DSi to be made smaller, sharper and lighter to make the portability easier. In this case, the DSi remains the better option. The DSi XL is probably a wiser option for those who use the DSi indoors or when still rather than travelling.
So it actually is a matter of preference. The Nintendo DSi XL offers a bigger, chunkier videogaming experience but decreases the ease of travel related to earlier incarnations. If this sounds like your sort of thing, then give it a go. If not - don’t panic! The existing DSi is going to be here for a long while yet!
