Cable Satellite TV Lures Away Cable Customers
October 4, 2008
During the last decade or so, there has been somewhat of an exodus of people who left their cable company in favor of a cable satellite TV company. Obviously, there are some solid reasons why more than 30 million customers decided to walk away from cable in favor of TV satellite dish services, and it seems that some cable company executives are still scratching their heads over this trend.
In addition to those who switched from cable to satellite, there are millions more who were never able to have cable access to programming because they lived in rural areas. But, with the addition of a satellite dish antenna and a satellite receiver, those in rural areas now can also enjoy the same entertainment programming as people who live in metropolitan areas.
One of the biggest reasons why people are walking away from their cable providers and embracing the cable satellite TV providers comes down to money. No matter what part of the country you live in you will find that it costs less to get your entertainment needs met if you use a satellite dish antenna, versus the old fashioned and out of date cable providers that still need to have their network hard-wired.
In order to have cable TV satellite service in your home, you need to have a complete satellite TV system. The first component is the satellite dish antenna that is positioned outside of the premises. You will often see the mini dish antenna units on rooftops, the sides of buildings, on fences or mounted to a pole, in order to provide the proper positioning. The satellite dish antenna must have a clean and unobstructed view of a certain area of the southern sky and they must be precisely positioned by trained technicians.
The second component to a cable satellite TV system is the receiver with takes the signal from the dish antenna and sends it to the television. The receivers have programming that affects the programming guides, providing detailed information about each show you wish to watch.
One of the most interesting innovations that was recently introduced and has quickly become very popular in the DVR, or digital video recorder, that is integrated into some models of cable TV satellite receivers. These DVR receivers allow you to pause live broadcasts and also to record your favorite programs without the need to fuss with video tapes. Some of these devices are dual receivers, which allow you to watch one show while recording a second, or record two shows at the same time.
Cable satellite TV services continue to be popular not only because they provide better value at a lower cost, but also because of the innovative features that they offer, such as DVR services and dish on demand programming. While traditional cable providers now match many of the features of the TV satellite dish services, it seems that the satellite companies tend to be first to bring new innovations and then the cable companies follow a bit later.
GPS Handheld Tracking Systems
October 3, 2008
There are many different types of auto navigation systems. Among the many you will find those that come factory installed, those that are attached to the interior of your automobile through the use of suction cups, and still others that are handheld devices which can simply be installed by attaching a cord to your cars cigarette lighter. These devices don’t offer quite the functionality and ease of use as some of the other (need I say pricier) types of navigational devices but you should not be fooled by features that you might not find all that useful in reality.
I’m a bargain hunter by nature. There really is nothing I can do to change my thrifty (some might say cheap) nature. Having the best “toys” are great, but would prefer to purchase them without spending too much. For this reason alone I decided to seriously consider some of the many handheld navigational tools on the market today.
There are many reasons I find these devices attractive. First of all, they suit many purposes. Not only are they useful when traveling by car (if you purchase the right software of course), they are also quite useful when taking your travels off road as well. You can use them four wheeling in the country, riding horses in wide open spaces, hiking in the hills and mountains, or when getting away by bike for the day. My personal favorite use for these nifty tools however is on the side roads. I’m a horrible navigator and a mapping GPS car tracking handheld is just the thing to keep me on track and on target.
I really dislike the feeling of being lost and not in control of my whereabouts. It is a frightening feeling that is only intensified whenever there are children on board during those lost moments in time. Only someone who has ever experienced that feeling while looking into the eyes of her babies and feeling so alone on top of being so lost can really understand. The fear can be overwhelming in these types of situations if they were to take place.
The best action to take is proactive. Avoid putting yourself in situations where you will feel lost. This of course, hasn’t always been possible in the past. Having a navigational device on hand at all times can go such a long way towards alleviating that fear and calming any qualms someone may have about the need to travel to unfamiliar places at time. Since we must occasionally stray from the world we know, love, and are familiar with it is great to know that there are devices to help us find our way in many situations.
If you are looking for a great gift to give almost anyone on your Christmas list this year, a nice handheld used GPS for sale with mapping capabilities is a great gift to give. Of course, you do not really need to wait until the holidays in order to give a gift such as this-especially if you are giving it to someone whose safety is of great importance to you. I think anyone who drives, bikes, boats, floats, hikes, or rows could find a great deal of use for tools such as this, particularly females who enjoy these activities and occasionally enjoy them alone.
No matter what your specific needs in auto navigation systems may be, there are many systems that could suit them quite nicely. Take the time to study what is available and reconcile your needs with your budget in order to find the one that will work best for you. Handheld GPS systems with mapping abilities offer a highly affordable option along with some surprising extra features, which will make them attractive in and out of the automobile. Good luck in finding the perfect auto navigation system for you. It is out there someplace.
Use Your DVR To Control Your Television
October 2, 2008
The digital video recorder has to be the greatest add-on to my TV. Ever since I got connected to DirecTV and their new HD DVR, my television viewing habits have changed.
Let me give you a brief example.
If you haven’t ever watched TV with a DVR, or a TiVo, you don’t know what you are missing. You have total control over everything you decide to watch. If you are watching a program, and all of the sudden you realize that you are hungry, you can just hit the pause button. Go make your food, and come back when you’re ready, even if it takes an hour!
Then when you begin watching the show again, you will have the added advantage of fast forwarding through any commercials that come up. Zip right through them every time they pop up! I don’t think I’ve seen a full commercial in three months.
Now here is how to get the most out of a digital video recorder. I don’t surf through channels anymore. I simply set up my DVR to record the shows I like. Even when watching football, I set the digital video recorder, then I sit down about an hour after the game actually starts. That way, I can fast forward through all the commercials, and watch the game in about half the time.
Finally, I can always see new episodes of my favorite series. For example, new episodes are coming out soon of Friday Night Lights. On my DVR, all I have to do is select the record series choice, and every time the show airs, my DVR finds it night or day, and saves it for me. I can set it to save all of the episodes, or just the first-run editions. All of this in crystal clear HD too!
Then, when I have time to watch television, all of my shows are ready and waiting there for me to watch. No need to rearrange my schedule around the networks, not with my new DirecTV DVR.

Cheap GPS Systems
October 1, 2008
To help people find their way around today’s technology has invented the gps system. This system is otherwise known as Global Positioning Satellite systems. The gps systems use the satellites which have been made to help with navigation, tracking and location coordinates. You will be able to buy various appliances which have been equipped with the gps systems. As there is a wide range you may be able to find some cheap gps appliances to use.
This however means that you will need to see about the various features that are present in these devices. With a gps system you should be able to see the monitor interface clearly. Your new cheap gps interface should be able to provide you with easy to see clear maps. Also to change from one feature or section of the map to another the touch screen should be in excellent working condition.
The different gps systems will also have varying prices which are also dependent on the features which are embedded into the system. For the most part you should be able to find a cheap gps within the price range of about $100 to $400 USD. Now just in case you feel that this price range is very expensive you might want to reconsider that thought.
The newer gps systems which have many new and improved features come in the price bracket of $999.99 and upwards. You can even find a not so cheap gps system available for the healthy price of – quick find a chair and have a fan near by - $2,000.00 USD. Now when you look at these price comparisons you must admit that paying about $200 is better than the high price of $2,000.00.
Once you have gotten past this shock point we can proceed. You will need to do some shopping and choose the cheap gps model which has all of the features that are necessary for a gps. These features should be a low price, an excellent quality touch screen monitor, a visible and easy to read interface.
The street maps should also be clearly visible. The route you will take and your current position highlighted so that you can see them even in the darkness. The various street names, railway crossings, hospitals, and other venues of importance should be shown and stated well. The voice prompts which are part of the gps systems should be heard clearly even on a cheap gps.
As technology is meant to help us you should choose the items which will provide this help. While getting the brand new products that are available can show your status and prestige you will need to pay a substantial price. A cheap gps on the other hand can give you all of the help you require for a fraction of the price.
